You can’t steal second base with your foot on first!
Thursday, July 7th, 2005Change is external in nature, while transition is internal. Change in the weather, change in policies, change in structure… external. While transition, is the state that change puts people in to. Soon I will face and experience a big leap of change in my life. Change in the place of living, change in the way I live, change in the way I study, and many more. I have to let go of the way that things used to be, and sadly, in the way I used to be. I have lived my life standing in the first base… Now I have to let go… Let go of the way of engaging tasks that made me successful in the past. That’s why, today I’ve decided to face this. The day will come when I have to leave my first base, and run for the second base. And now I will prepare myself for it. Here goes my Change Plan!!! ^_^ This change plan is written to inform myself of the things that I need to consider, to ease the pain of running and leaving my first base. Well, it might not be that painful… but it’s better to prepare myself for the worst rather than to get shocked later, isn’t it? ^_*
(inspired by my change management class, end of 2003. A paper of “Leading New Transition: A New Model for Change” by William Bridges and Susan Mitchell).
I. The Purpose –Why U need to do this Hey myself, in case someday u regret urself for leaving the first base, remember, that U NEED TO DO THIS. Why? Because u’ve found so many reasons for leaving!!
Remember how people undermine u…. how people act as if u can’t make it without their help. At that time, u said that hey, just wait for the day for me to prove myself! Now here comes the day, so go prove urself girl! Go amazed them! Show them that u can do it by urself. Go make them eat their words, haha…
Remember how pathetic Indonesia is now… How people work so slow u want to kick them in the a** to make them work faster… See, u definitely need to go someplace better!
Imagine if u loose this chance… u have to stay sbg dosen yg ‘berbakti’, manis2 terus dan siap dibicarakan pegawai2 karna nda caper pa dorang dan atasan2… if u don’t leave now, u have to face this for another semester! U don’t want that!!!
Imagine if u have this chance ten years later, when u have a family to take care of… Surely, it will be harder to study when u have to think about ur hubby and children (what?!) . Besides, isn’t the idea of having postgrad degree in the age of 24 sounds so cool to you?
Remember how u want to meet ur Colin Firth. Haha… this is one of the limited chances to make it possible!! Go for it!
Think about people who will spend the rest of their life in jail, people who are in sickness, and people who can’t go anywhere… To have the opportunity to make a journey is something really valuable for sure! Gratis lagi! ^_*
At last, on the top of many reasons that u can find, remember ur dream of going to NL. Remember how you can hear the voices: Wish u were here… Remember how u’ve pictured urself wearing that wooden shoes. Remember how you believe that dreams do come true… They do, indeed! Many people also share the same dream… but not many find it come true, at least for this time. So be grateful, u don’t want to miss this chance… This is one of the most valuable life time experiences!
II. The Picture – What it will look and feel like when u reach ur goal.
So cool… I will experience studying in a much better education system. I will realize how serious offense the plagiarism is. I will improve my English. I will know a better way of writing. I will have friends from around the globe! I will have the opportunity to have cool pictures with cool backgrounds (Eiffel, for example? J) I will experience the way of living in Europe. I will get used to pay something with Euro and not with Rupiah anymore J I will get the chance to live in the place where my ancestors lived. I will get the opportunity to have the degree ge-ra-tis, hehe… Masih banyak lagi cool things lainnya yg lebih baik kusimpan sbg pembicaraan dng diriku sendiri aja ah… Bottom line is, u’ll get the feeling u’ve never felt before. It will look and feel AWESOME!
III. The Plan – Step by step, how we will get there.
Step 1: Siapin segala sesuatunya sebelum keberangkatan, tmasuk menyiapkan diri begini.
Step 2: By the time u reach the airport, go mark the ending! No turning back. Come what may!
Step 3: Get used to the way of living and studying there – ini mungkin neutral phase yg makan waktu dan gak nyaman sama skali.
IV. The Part – What u can do (and need to do) to help u move forward
- Bertanggungjawab dng pilihan sendiri. It’s my choice to study and live abroad.
- Be an independent woman!! Harus bisa hidup nda tergantung orang lain: masak sendiri, makan sendiri, blajar sendiri, blanja sendiri, jalan sendiri, nyasar sendiri, hehe…
- Save only the positive thoughts. Remember, u are what u think. When u think of all the positive things, u are magnetizing them to come in to ur way.
- Stay ceria n Never let ur smile go. Face everything with smile on ur face. Go laugh on ur troubles. Take it easy-lah…
- Realize that u only have 15.5 months to live in NL. Make a good use of it.
- Susah tapi mungkin: Just let go of the things that u used to be. Expect changes in everything. That’s the way it is.
- In everything, be grateful. For GOD is good all the time! In this world of constant change, HE will never change. HE will always be The One u can turn to.
